Well, as usual, a lot to "complain" about this year! :) We planned a special issue for Winter 2004, but personal life
intruded for our guest editor to be. So, at the last minute,
we decided to just go with the fabulous work that our outstanding
book reviews editor had done, with over 30
book reviews for the issue. No new poetry or fiction was
published in that issue, either, since both the poetry editor
and fiction editor could not get the work out in time with the
delays of the special issue being put off. So that was major
fun! Our fiction editor seems to be back on track, too. As for more personal life intrusions, Kim, the general editor, is having her first babies in July 2005. (Yes, I said babies!) Twins! So that means that more guest editorships are on the way in the future. This can only mean growth and new direction for the zine, since new blood always brings great new stuff. It's hard to give up control of the issue, but with two babies on the way, this Internet baby will have to be guided by other good thinkers for a while. The editorial board is still in place, and will have final approval over guest submissions, but we anticipate that not being at all a problem, since the guest editors will be wonderful scholars with lots of great work under their belts. Our first new special issue will be the Summer 05 issue. See the CFP for more information. In the meantime, the zine was reviewed in the academic print journal Feminist Collections: A Quarterly of Women's Studies Resources 25:3, Spring 2004. 27. We were quite excited to hear that they thought we were a good site. Our visitor count has almost reached 60 MILLION!! (That's right-- million). We still receive an occasional thank you letter from people who were introduced to women authors above and beyond the token female generally included in lists of "100 best authors". Welcome to the site, and please, have a look around, think about women writers and women's studies, and come back and see us again!
p.s. yes, Kim is ALMOST done with her dissertation-- which has been featured in this rant many times. It needs to be done by the time the twins get here, so send your good writing and editing vibes her way. :) |
