Statistics for this website's "traffic" since January 2002

You Like Us, You Really Like Us

When I first started this website, (in 1999) it was hosted on a different hosting company's server. I had to move it a year or so after I started it to a new host.... and when that happened, I basically lost all the statistics for how many visitors had come here. So the numbers I have are since 2002, when the site got put on this new server.

I recently figured out that the little free counter I have had since the site's beginning is not really counting all the visitors.... I don't know why this is, perhaps it has a problem with certain browsers, or there's a security issue and it gets blocked by some servers. So the numbers that used to display were WAY undercounted. It looked before today like I'd had about 100,000 visitors-- pretty cool, but apparently WAY under the many that really have been here!

I'm still trying to figure out how to get a "readily updated" counter that you, gentle reader, can figure out, cause curiosity killed the cat (but did you know the expression also says "but satisfaction revived it"?) The counter I have on the main page only counts the hits that page gets-- none of the "embedded" hits get counted-- so I'll update it now and then to reflect the whole site.

But till I can get a program to do it for us, here is a breakdown of the hits, files accessed, cached visits, etc, since January 2002. You can see that there's a little overlap between the numbers of the first chart and the second.... I don't have the inclination to do all of the math for the overlap, (as I tell my students, I'm an English major, darn it!) but you can still get a good look and a guesstimate based on these tables. I did stick commas in there on the totals to make it a little easier to read.

I'll try to remember to update this at least when I do a new issue. This gives a much better idea of how many people are visiting our little corner of the web. It's fairly impressive don't-cha-think?

The total hits for 2002 (so the math doesn't overlap with the other table) are 1,739,573 so if you add that to the hits since then, the total since then, you get: 5,187,110-- the total number of hits since January 2002!

I didn't make up these numbers, by the way, they come from a program my hosting provider lets me use... but it's only accessible by me with passwords & stuff, so this is copied from the file I get to see. I swear it's accurate.... what good would it do me to fake it?

So now you know, although I'm not sure why anyone would be this curious. Maybe you want to know how famous we are. How many people might see your work if you publish here.... well, here's a guess. It sorta makes me wish everyone who had been here had donated a penny. I'd be feeling pretty good about this work, for more reasons than just personal satisfaction, if so!!

Are you feeling better, little kitty?
