Ms. Brooks works as an organizational consultant at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Valerie assists departments with their strategic planning efforts. A first year (albeit part-time) Ph.D. student in Cultural Foundations in Education, Valerie's interests include 19th century black women educators, diasporic identities and gender, class and cultural implications in organizational structure.

Valerie likes to build and maintain webpages in her spare time. She relaxes by laughing with her children, Hailey and Zachary. This year, Valerie and her husband Herman are looking forward to competing together in 5K races. She's also planning to put at least one of the hundreds of stories running through her head to paper.
