EDUCATION:

Sarah Klein is a freelance writer/editor and an independent scholar working out of her Austin, Texas home office.

Sarah completed the coursework portion of her Ph.D. in English at the University of Maryland, from 1999 to 2001. She was an instructor of writing and rhetoric in the Department of English at UM, and also worked as an administrator in the Department of Women's Studies.

In the summer of 1999 she held a research assistantship with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Her research there, assisting a scholar from University of Brighton, U.K., focused on late 19th century American women's history and was widely interdisciplinary.

Sarah has an M.A. in English from Southwest Texas State University (1998), with a specialization in American literature and women's writing. She also completed extensive graduate coursework in educational psychology. Sarah has a B.A. in social sciences from the University of Texas (1993), where she also did work in journalism.

Over the past ten years she has also worked as a professional writer and editor, a public school teacher, an organizer of literary events, an educational administrator for autistic children, and a newspaper columnist.

PROFESSIONAL WORK:

Sarah's editorial consulting company provides copyediting, proofreading, writing, typesetting, and research for a range of professional, academic, and personal projects.

SCHOLARLY WORK: Sarah's master's thesis examined feminist consciousness, syncretic spirituality, and cultural preservation in contemporary African-American women's novels. She has presented on women's writing and feminist theory at several literary conferences. Her current research interests center around women's writing and women's literary history, as well several other areas from a feminist perspective: film/video/digital mediums, rhetoric, and popular culture/popular fiction.

New areas of interest are biographies/autobiographies by and about women, and the epistolary genre.
