These are a few student papers written to complete requirements in one of my courses, English 203, Introduction to Literature. The course is one in which students are expected to continue learning basic college composition skills, as well as being introduced to literary texts.

They are not all "A" papers, but they show a range of student styles and feature some of the goals that I try to acheive in my course, including

• proper citation techniques
• integration of primary source into argument
• grammar & technical accuracy
• good research
• a strong argument-- even in informal papers

Since these are the type of assignments that lots of first-year students get, I have saved the papers in Adobe .PDF format to try to lessen the temptation for students to "borrow" work that does not belong to them. These papers were a daily journals for English 203-- an "intro to literature" and composition course. Students were encouraged to write about the literary work they had read that night, and the journals were designed to be practice in writing formally, but with interesting arguments.

• Journal for Feb 24
• Unravelled this second paper was in response to an assignment to write about a personal event that had changed the student's life.
• Website this is an assignment that was basically an attempt to get students to learn to create web pages; I allowed them to do one informal journal on the web.
