Write a 2.5-3.5 page essay, making sure to have a coherent
thesis statement, which you will underline in your final draft,
on one of the following topics. Essay must be typed and double
spaced. Be sure to pay attention to rules of basic grammar and
style, check spelling and, if you use any outside sources, a
works cited page.
Be sure that your paper
focuses on your topic;
presents a clearly expressed thesis which includes an
argument;
thoroughly informs your readers;
maintains a clear, consistent stand from start to finish;
includes a clear beginning, strong support & convincing
conclusion consider PIE as a guideline;
presents reasonable, logical argument;
includes an interesting beginning, strong development
and an effective ending;
uses transitions to link sentences and paragraphs;
speaks knowledgeably about your subject;
shows that you as writer are truly interested in and feel
strongly about your subject;
explains or defines any and all unfamiliar terms;
contains specific nouns/subjects and vivid action verbs;
flows smoothly from one idea to the next;
shows variation in sentence structure;
sticks to the basic rules of writing;
follows all standard formatting requirements;
Use all of the above points to write an essay where you:
Write a "how to" paper, including specific, concrete
instructions about how to perform a certain task. You must, as
part of your "how to" include your basic reason for
knowing how to do the task you're describing why is it
important? Why should one know the information? Why is it important
to you? To the world?
The task is wide open from putting on make-up to changing
a tire to solving a mathematical equation to writing a computer
program you get the picture. But choose something that
YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DO WELL and then explain it to someone
who would not know the things you're discussing. Be sure to include
a thesis statement & a conclusion that clearly express WHY
it is important to know this information. Make sure your essay
also includes WHO should know it HOW they would learn it WHAT
the task really is WHERE one would do the task and WHEN the task
is best performed. You must only choose a subject that you are
already an expert, then inform others about it. |
